Blinkcodes

From Chiip-Wiki

Jump to: navigation, search

If a fatal error occurs, the Wii status LED will start showing a blinkcode that identifies the kind of error that occurred. Each blinkcode is made up of 8 short or long blinks.

It's not really necessary to know each possible blinkcode, because

  • hardly anyone has ever seen a blinkcode other than Short - Short - Short - Short - Short - Short - Long - Short and
  • they will probably change in future versions

Here is the list of all blinkcodes people have seen so far. S/L stand for short/long. If you have seen a blinkcode not mentioned on this list, drop me a line and I'll include it.

Blinkcode Meaning
SSSSSSLS Error while syncing - If this blinkcode occurs right after turning the Wii on, it most probably means there's something wrong with the connection of the I or C line.
SSSSSSLL Unknown DVD controller chipset - Chiip is communicating with the DVD controller - but it's a new, yet unsupported DVD controller chipset.
SSSSSLSS Error while writing data - Some people have reported that this blinkcode occurs if the Wii is turned on with a disc already in the drive. I don't know why this happens yet.
SSSSSLSL Error while reading data - If this blinkcode occurs right after turning the Wii on, it most probably means there's something wrong with the connection of the O line.
