Alternative installation

Because the Chiip is reprogrammable (currently not via DVD) you might want to be able to easily remove the Chiip later. To allow for such easy removal (the original method required you to reopen your Wii) you can follow my (Scorpei's) guide here. That guide will explain to you how you can make a 9-pins D-sub connection on the outside of your Wii (you can place it anywhere on the Wii, but the location as described in Scorpei's guide is the easiest; it does require you to make a hole in your Wii).

Following that scheme you will have 8 pins connected (more then the Chiip requires). This includes all pads needed by Chiip, the 5V line, an extra connection on the TSSP (Top Secret Serial Port) required by WiiKey and an extra line used by CycloWiz.

The guide is very similar to a normal Mod-Chip install so all normal rules apply. Just follow the guide closely and this shouldn't be a problem for you. Once you have completed the guide up to the point that you have a connection on the outside of your Wii you will need to make a module similar to this one;

For the Chiip I suggest you use an IC socket as that way you can easily remove it from the module and reprogram it on your computer. You can also use in-circuit-programming if you prefer (which would require you to make an extra connection on the module to attach the programmer too. That connection only requires six wires/pins so it could be quite useful).

If you've followed Scorpei's guide fully you should have a pin-out identical to his on your Wii. If so you can use this pin out scheme for the Chiip (left; Chiip connection. Right; Pin # on the D-sub connector);

V-6
G-5
O-2
I-3
C-4

Once you've completed the module you can insert it into your Wii's external TSSP connection.

REMEMBER THOUGH, DO NOT INSERT OR REMOVE THE MODULE WHEN THE WII IS TURNED ON OR IN STANDBY MODE!!!! DOING SO MIGHT RESULT IN (PERMANENTLY) DAMAGING YOUR WII AND/OR CHIIP!!!

When the Wii's LED is red however you can freely remove and insert the module (there is no power to the DVD drive thus nothing can go wrong).
